The parks highest point is Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcano, and sits 251m above sea level giving excellent view of the city; it is also the site of a large and well preserved fort. This is one of four hill forts dating from around 2000 years ago. With its diverse range of flora and geology it is also site of Special Scientific Interest.

Within the park you can also visit St Anthony’s Chapel - a 15th century medieval chapel, Salisbury Crags – a series of 150 foot cliff faces dominating Edinburgh’s skyline as well as Duddingston Loch – a fresh water loch rich in birdlife.

Princes Street Gardens is one of the most important urban parks situated in the heart of Edinburgh, with great views of the city and Edinburgh Castle. It separates the Old Town from the New Town, just a 2 minute walk from Market Street hotel.

Water of Leith

The Water of Leith is the main river flowing near central Edinburgh, Scotland, and flows into the port of Leith where it flows into the sea via the Firth of Forth. This is a great “local” part of the city with nice walks, restaurants and bars.

Meadows

Lovely park to the south of the city centre with charming cafes, green spaces and fabulous walks overlooking historic and modern architecture.

MULTREES WALK

For designer shopping in Edinburgh's New Town, visit Multrees Walk. A beautiful street, home to the most exclusive stores such as Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.

Calton Hill

Take a short hike! Calton Hill is a 15 minute walk from our hotel, now established as one of Edinburgh's main hills, set right in the city centre. It is unmistakable with its Athenian acropolis poking above the skyline.

The top of Calton hill is a usually quiet place to visit on any day, with its grassy slopes and panoramic views of the city, including down the length of Princes street and on to Edinburgh Castle. There is also a good view North of the ruddy-coloured cliffs of Salisbury Crags and Edinburgh's highest point, Arthur's Seat.

Beaches

Cramond & Cramond Island

Cramond Island - connected to the shoreline of Edinburgh only at low tide - is a fascinating place to visit, but requires careful planning to fit with tide times. Cramond Beach has a beautiful promenade and café with great views of the Firth of Forth and Fife.

Portobello beach

Portobello Beach, a few miles from Edinburgh city centre, is a charming seaside suburb, with two miles of sand making it perfect for swimming and sunbathing. A Ferris wheel has recently been added for that additional seaside feeling.
